Laptop Repair Sydenham SE26.

I was working on one of customers laptops in Sydenham the other day, the problem with it was that it been login into a domain at some point and he changed it from that domain to a workgroup. This change usually prompts and requires a reboot which he did. And now that the machine has been rebooted it won’t accept any of the passwords for the administartor account ID anymore!

So my customer wanted to know if I had a work around for this?

Well for those of us who have been working with computers for any lenght of time will know that this is a common issue, with a perfectly sensible explanation. Although the User ID maybe named the same ie “Administrator”, the local administrator account and the domain administartor account are actually different. Since we have as in this case taken the PC out of the domain, we need to logon using the local “Administrator” account ID’s password.

If only my customer could remember this password the one it had back before it joined to the domain, then this problem would be solved, but he didnt.

So I explained that since he had already taken the PC out of the domain we were pretty much left with one option. Resetting the local Administartor user accountID’s password! With the right tools this can be a painless process and can take all of 15mins to accomplish.
