One of the great things of belonging to a network like the Computer Troubleshooters network is the shared knowledge, and experiences. We recent had a conversation about customers’ misconceptions about PCs! Yes we all have ideas about Computers, based on thing we’ve heard or believed we’ve read.

Anyway here is 32 of the ones I thought I would share with you today..enjoy courtesy of Computer Troubleshooters!

1. Anti-virus software is all I need for protection on my PC.
2. Buying a new £400 PC will make my Limewire downloads much faster.
3. Defragging my PC will remove any viruses and spyware on my machine.
4. The internet is just a bunch of web pages really.
5. My power strip is a “surge protector” actually.
6. Hard drives never fail, especially on a new PC.
7. Wireless (802.11x) will work anywhere and everywhere, including at 85 MPH on the motorway 100 miles from the nearest anything.
8. 2 antivirus programs are better than 1!
9. Defrag - cleans up the drives and saves space.
10. My external hard drive is more reliable than the drive inside my computer.
11. My computer should work like the blender on my kitchen counter.
12. My 5 year old Anti-Virus program, never set up or updated, will protect me from the “baddies” out there.
13. I am not breaking the law by downloading the music; it is the people who are uploading it who are breaking the law.
14. My wireless router says 54 Mbps, so I should be downloading from DSL connection at 54 Mbps.
15. I need at least 1 gig of memory so I can store my music without slowing down my computer.
16. I don’t need a license for software products.
17. You can upgrade any computer to XP/Vista
18. If I just turn it off for a few days, weeks, months it will fix itself.
19. My warranty covers everything. Including software, dropping it, even hitting it with a sledgehammer etc.
20. Everything on the internet is true.
21. I trust my kid/kids on the internet.
22. I could’ve bought a new PC for the amount of that repair bill! (Yes…and in no time you’ll have it just as screwed up as this one! )
23. A larger hard drive will make my computer faster.
24. A computer will go slow if there are too many files on the hard disk.
25. A computer will slow down based on the number of links on the desktop.
26. The tower is actually called the CPU, Hard Drive …
27. If something doesn’t work, repeat it a dozen times because it is bound to eventually work.
28. My favourite is the user that has used 20Gb of a 40Gb hard drive calling to ensure that their new computer has a large enough hard drive.
29. I backup my data every week. (Yeah right).
30. My receptionist does the backup everyday and takes the tapes offsite for me.
31. I have tested my backups.
32. Vista will run on a laptop with 256MB memory
